Choosing a Large Bedside Cot

Height

When choosing a bedside baby sleeper cot choose one that can be raised to a height that is comfortable for you when feeding babies. Chicco Next2me Magic is another alternative. It was awarded Gold in the 2021 Mother&Baby Awards for the Best Cot, Moses Basket, or Crib and has a machine-washable interior, reflux incline, and rocking feature. It's bigger than other cribs we've tested, but it folds up into its bag for travel, making it compact when not in use.

Leya, MFM mum home tester also praised the bedside crib's functionality. She claimed that it was designed for both parents and babies. It is easy to move and super-sturdy. She said that the swivelling bassinet base was fantastic since it allowed you to move it from side to side. One of its sides could be lower to facilitate access for mothers who are recovering from C-sections.

Safety

A large bedside cot's main safety feature is that it is able to be adjusted or moved so that parents can reach their baby to feed or comfort him or their nappies. This makes it perfect for mothers who are recovering from a C-section. Look for a design that lets you lower one side with the push of a button, large bedside cot so you can easily lift your baby up without needing to get out of the bed. This is crucial, particularly as your baby grows and becomes more mobile. The NPR of the CPSC NPR includes 24 incidents that are attributed to product-related issues that include gaps between a bedside sleeper (adult bed) and the bedside sleeper (12 incidents), fabric-sided enclosed openings (11) and consumer misassembly (6 incidents).

In its NPR In its NPR, the CPSC examined the possibility of imposing additional requirements for bedside cot bed sleepers, such as the requirement that they meet the minimum side height requirement for bassinets, Large Bedside Cot or at a minimum, meet the maximum height requirement for the side rail. However the CPSC concluded that such requirements would not be practical or effective in reducing the number of incidents where infants were trapped between the bedside sleeper and the adult bed.

Many of the incidents reported in the NPR concerned multi-use bedside sleepers which can be converted to different types of furniture, like bassinets or play yards. Many commenters suggested that the CPSC add a second option to the proposed rule for bedside sleepers with multiple uses which would permit them to meet minimum side height requirements for bassinets using an attachment that is removable. The attachment can be permanently connected or disconnected when the product's not being used as a bassinet for babies.

The CPSC is currently reviewing the comments and other suggestions received in response to the NPR regarding bedside cot crib sleeping. The Commission will be examining these comments when deciding on the final rule which is expected to be published in November of 2021.
