WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades provide a guaranteed boost to certain stats. Each upgrade items increases the level of an item by 3. A random extra substat is also increased with each upgrade.

The more modernized gear generally has a more value in trade, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or very high stat variation (like Eth titan weapons). The latter see less value from upgrading due to the need to roll for a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by giving the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied on any kind of weapon or armor. However, the item that is used to upgrade will remain in use for a long time and can't be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create enhancements.

The upgrader is located in all major cities and can be accessed at any time to upgrade your equipment. To ensure that your equipment is up-to-date, it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each couple of weeks.

The cost of upgrades will vary based on the current item level of the gear being upgraded, but will always be less expensive than purchasing new gear from other sources. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest up to ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. If you purchase a similar item, it will cost you 105.

Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase weapon, armor, tool and accessory upgrades. They can be bought by players from item upgrader NPCs in exchange for different currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased it can be used on any weapon, tool, or armor using a The button will show a preview of an item upgrader kit's next upgrade level if there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrading varies based on the slot of the item and the current item upgrader kit level. For instance weapons cost more than bracers, or gloves. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Some upgrades offer a discount on the Flightstones. Once an item level upgrade is upgraded to a certain level it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader for a lower price.

Contrary to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II there is no upgrader for items at the beginning of Icewind Dale. Instead, the NPCs that can be used to upgrade require several methods, which is both an improvement and a drawback.

In Season 3, several new features have been added to the upgrade system. When a player has an upgrade to a specific item level for a particular armor slot, upgrading other items to that same item level will cost less even when they belong to an entirely different set of gear.

The discount is available to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is also cut and is not available until players have reached certain achievement milestones.

Crests

When it comes to upgrading gear in WoW players have a couple of choices. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more special and are utilized during specific item level upgrades. Crests are the main component of the Dragonflight gear progression system introduced in 10.1, and come in 4 ranks.

The first thing to be aware of is that crests can only be used on gear of a specific rank, and that each rank has different requirements for its upgrade path. These crests can be exchanged with an item upgrader such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to upgrade the item in the proper steps and pathways.

The new currency system isn't difficult to use, however it does bring some modifications to the upgrade process. For instance, once an item reaches the highest level of upgrading for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change allows players to upgrade their gear to the highest possible level for all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.
