For instance, the Q5's navigation doesn't feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology and is therefore prone to get caught up in socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. It doesn't also have a camera to see around corners.

It's still a good deal, especially if your home or office has lots of unfinished flooring and you're looking to save money. Additionally, it's quiet and can be used while you're at work or at school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming that is offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. This top-performing mop and vacuum combo makes use of advanced sensors to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste, and it also learns the layout of your home over time to provide more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average in comparison to similar models.

If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can tell it to remove and extend its mops. This can help avoid cross contamination. It can also clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is something we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combination.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

With a sleek circular design that appears like a regular Roomba than the competition's compact models This robot vacuum and mop combo is among the most attractive designs in our tests. The newest model from iRobot happens to be its smartest, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's the only robotic vacuum/mop to score 100% in our tests, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors, which include cameras, a structured lighting system and multiple lasers. If you're willing to put up with a little more noise and some additional cost, this is a very efficient two-in-one device that should satisfy most people.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a lot of advanced features that will let you get rid of your chores. Similar to Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take care of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multi-function dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to create floorplans and identify obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its top competitors. It also has a camera mounted on the front for real-time hazard detection but this was not 100% foolproof during our tests and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to complete the task. It also comes with an option called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas in the home based on how dirty these areas are.

For larger houses, it's worth opting for a model with spot or zone cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean one specific area of your home by using the app or voice commands. If you have lots of furniture, a stair mode is also useful. For busy families recharge functions and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off could be extremely useful.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price suggests. It is a great job cleaning, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with one pad, which uses a reciprocating motion, which is cleaner than the other mop cleaners for robots we've tested. It's also self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app as well as an auto-emptying washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through a mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you set on the map.
